Even though Congress passed a bill allowing for an extension of the closing deadline for the home buyer tax credit, there is no new tax credit, and home sales have dropped off sharply.
Also causing problems is the employment situation, which doesn't seem to be gaining much ground at all. Financial stocks led the plunge downward, as the Dow approaches 100 points in losses, and the S&P 500 falls to a 10-month low.
With the economy continuing to resist recovery, it is little surprise that investors are reluctant to buy right now. Markets in Europe are also lower, in spite of the euro's gains in forex trading.
