| March 10, 2010 | | Spread bets and CFDs on U.S. stocks | Spread betting and contracts for differences on the U.S. stock market should consider that futures are slightly higher just ahead of the open. U.S. stocks barely finished in the black yesterday, with the Dow closing just 12 points higher.
Today, investors appear to be trying for optimism. China has reported an increase in exports and imports -- a larger increase than expected. This is providing some hope that the global economic recovery is beginning to pick up steam. Additionally, the first major release of the week, wholesale inventories for January, are due out soon in the U.S. They are expected to be relatively positive, as is the state unemployment numbers for January. All of this is pointing to slightly higher U.S. stock futures.
It should be an interesting day, and U.S. stock futures slight gain show that optimism is there. But the economic data will determine whether it holds.
