| November 20, 2009 | | Spread bets and CFDs on the European stock market | Spread betting and contracts for differences on European stocks should consider that they have turned lower today. Early in the session, the European stock market was a bit higher. However, European stocks soon turned mixed, and now they are lower.
Part of the reason for the difficulty is due to the comments made by ECB president Jean Claude Trichet. Trichet announced that exit from economic stimulus measures would be slow. Many investors took this to mean that the European Central Bank is not quite ready to begin raising interest rates that are at a low 1%.
European stocks follow Asian stocks lower, and act as a prelude to what is expected to be a lower opening on Wall Street for the U.S. session.
