U.S. Stock Market Opens Lower

Payrolls data sends U.S. stocks lower

The U.S. stock market opened lower this morning, down nearly 80 points in early trading. The correction from recent exuberant rallies continues, today fueled by payrolls data.

The latest payrolls data shows continued job losses from the economy. However, the pace of the jobs decline is slowing, and that is providing some small hope. But it still means that the stock market is faltering, since recovery is not coming as quickly as some would like.

The U.S. stock market has been swinging between gains and losses recently, having good rallies, and then correcting. Investor sentiment is unsettled as the economy tries to get going in fits and starts.
