| July 31, 2009 | | Spread bets and CFDs on U.S. stocks | U.S. stock index futures are pointing to a higher open today. Spread betting and contracts for differences on the U.S. stock market should consider the impact of the latest GDP information.
Even though the latest GDP report shows the U.S. economy shrinking by 1% in the second quarter of 2009, this is a much smaller drop than expected. Indeed, many analysts expected the economy to contract by 1.5%.
The news is providing optimism for investors. The thought is that things are improving, and at a better rate than expected. As a result, the U.S. stock market is expected to open higher and perhaps even continue its recent rally.
***UPDATE***
U.S. stock market opened lower, in spite of some of the hopeful data.
