| June 30, 2009 | | Correction keeps bears ahead on the British stock market | Spread betting and contracts for differences on the FTSE 100 should consider that the index is just barely in the red today. The British stock market has been unable to overcome the dour economic news released today. Bloomberg reports on the current state of the FTSE 100:
“The market is begging for another correction,” said
David Buik, a markets analyst at inter-dealer broker BGC
Partners in London. “It seems hard to accept a really bullish
stance on equities.”
The British stock market is not being helped by the fact that the British economy has contracted a great deal. Quarter 1 of 2009 showed the biggest shrinkage in 50 years. There are hopes that Quarter 2 might turn out to have been better, but the most the British economy can hope for right now is that it has stopped shrinking.
