Continuing Unemployment Claims Drop

U.S. stock market heartened by news

Spread bets and CFDs on the U.S. stock market should consider that shares are slightly higher at open today. Thanks to the news that continuing unemployment claims have finally dropped. After increasing for weeks on end, continuing jobless claims have finally fallen -- by 148,000.

This is good news for those who are looking for signs that the worst is over for the recession in the U.S. However, initial claims did rise slightly, counterbalancing to a small degree the good news.

The day will be an interesting one for the U.S. stock market. Doubtless the bulls will try and make something of the new jobs report, strugging to end on a high note. But there are still doubts about the U.S. economy overall, and that means that the bears could remain in control.
