Spread betting and contracts for differences on the stock market should consider that while many companies are reporting lackluster earnings, Exxon Mobil (XOM) has done it again. Once again, Exxon has beat its own record.
Even with 4th Quarter profits down 33%, XOM managed to pull out a record $45.22 billion in 2008 -- the largest annual profit in United States corporate history. Most of the money, unsurprisingly, was made back in the summer, as oil prices spiked above $140 per barrel.
As one would expect, XOM stock is higher today, even as most of the U.S. stock market declines.
