| January 20, 2009 | | Spread bets on individual equities | With yesterday's announcement of a U.K. bank bailout, it is no surprise that there are now increasing calls for nationalisation of more banks. The latest bank to be the subject of rumours regarding nationalisation.
Headlines were made months ago when Northern Rock was nationalised. Now, though, with calls for the same to happen to RBS, it is clear that there is very little faith left in the British banking system.
The question, now, is whether or not the government can help the financial system and whether or not government actions will contribute to economic recovery.
