| December 29, 2008 | | Spread bets and CFDs on the U.S. stock market | U.S. stocks are gaining right now, ahead of today's open. a number of factors may be contributing to what appears to be a likely stock market rally this week:
- Low volume, due to holiday trading between Christmas and New Year.
- Oil prices are rising, due to violence in the Middle East.
- A small measure of optimism, due to the coming year.
However, there are concerns that any rally for the U.S. stock market this week is likely to be short-lived, since worries are again being raised about the global economy, thanks to problems with GMAC financing, a canceled deal between Kuwait and Dow Chemical and the fact that retailers are hurting from poor holiday sales.
