| December 18, 2008 | | Automakers not enjoying the stock market rally | The U.S. stock market is slightly higher right now, after a volatile start. However, automakers are not enjoying the same sort of boost that other stocks (notably financials) are seeing.
And perhaps that is because GM (GM) and Chrysler (privately held) seem to be announcing defeat. After last week's EPIC FAIL of the U.S. auto industry bailout, things have been dicey. But now, it appears that GM and Chrysler are back in merger talks.
They know they won't get all that they are asking for in order to remain separate entities. And, if banks won't finance the merger, maybe TARP will.
