Oil Prices: A Bit of Confusion

Oil futures rise, but could fall again
Oil prices are showing a bit of confustion lately. There are some different forces acting on oil futures right now.

On the one hand, speculators are driving up oil prices. On the other hand, some analysts are keeping a lid on oil futures on the belief that global demand for oil is likely to slow. The Associated Press reports on this tug-of-war over oil prices:

Prices, analysts say, remain caught between those that want to buy oil as a hedge against another reversal in the dollar and those saying slowing economies worldwide will cut demand for fuel and energy.
