The economic data shows that personal spending beat forecasts, and this was interepreted by the stock market as good news. Bloomberg reports on some of the US stocks advancing today:
Coca-Cola Co., the world's largest soft-drink maker, and
General Motors Corp., the biggest automaker, climbed after the
Commerce Department said consumer spending, which accounts for
more than two-thirds of the economy, rose at a 2.3 percent
annual rate in the fourth quarter. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and
American Express Co. also advanced. | | |
