While the rally isn't enough to pull the FTSE 100 out of the negative, it did help limit losses due to financial stocks. Most of the momentum for the miners comes from the M&A fervor, and attempts by BHP Billiton to acquire Rio Tinto. MarketWatch reports:
"M&A is always going to get the bulls back out
again," said David Hussey, a strategist at MFC Global Investment
Management.
Rio dismissed the offer, saying it significantly undervalued its prospects. | | |
