Spread Betting: Running Profits

Holding a position to increase earnings

In spread betting, there are two main philosophies: taking profits and running profits. While many beginning spread bettors prefer taking profits, advanced spread bettors may try to increase their winnings by running profits.

Running profits is staying in a spread betting contract or position in order to continue to get gains from it. This means that rather than ending yoru position as soon as you have a profit, you try to increase your winnings by maintaining your position.
