Spread Betting: Taking Profits

Taking your winnings
When placing spread bets, it is important to figure out when you will end a bet. It is possible to end a three month spread betting contract early, and take your winnings, if you think that an instrument will fall in the last month. Leaving a spread betting contract early in order to avoid losses is called taking profits.

While you may not make as much money taking profits when they come as you would if you “ran” your profits and risk making even more, you will lose less often. After all, no one ever grows broke when taking profits, and running profits offers the risk of losing a great deal of money.
