U.K. Shares Down on Stock Market

Interest rate hikes affect U.K. shares
U.K. shares are down on the stock market today, as expected interest rate hikes are likely to cut into share earnings. Spread bets and CFDs on U.K. shares should consider the stock market struggles. The FTSE 100 is down, as is the FTSE All-Share Index. The ISEQ Index in Ireland is also down, reports Bloomberg:

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index slipped 42.4, or 0.7 percent, to 6455.4 at 2:05 p.m. The FTSE All-Share Index lost 0.6 percent to 3355.24. Ireland's ISEQ Index sank 1.1 percent to 9594.59.

All of the 43 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News yesterday expect policy makers to lift the Bank Rate to 5.5 percent next month. On March 30, nine out of 53 economists had expected no change in April or May. A report yesterday showed inflation last month at the fastest pace in a decade.
