The Quandary Faced by the U.S. Federal Reserve

The U.S. economy is in an interesting place
Spread bets and CFDs on American financial markets could get interesting in the coming days and weeks after we see what the U.S. Federal Reserve does about its current quandary. MarketWatch's Irwin Kellner comments:

The softening of the housing market combined with the wobbly stock market is slowing economic growth. On the other hand, inflation is being pushed higher by energy, as well as by foods, health care and rents.

The big question confronting the Fed as the central bank meets to scope out the economy is which is the lesser of two evils, slower growth or rising inflation?
