Investors
awaited the release of the latest home builders' index, due at 1 p.m.
Eastern time. It will be closely viewed in light of the slump in the
nation's housing market and worries about whether subprime mortgage
woes will spread to the wider market.
In addition, Federal Reserve policymakers are scheduled to convene for a two-day meeting on interest rates starting Tuesday.
