| August 22, 2006 | | Oil rally stalls, U.S. companies advance | The U.S. stock markets are rallying as U.S. stocks rise. Oil prices have stalled, and this is renewing confidence in the ability of the U.S. economy to weather a slowdown. And, with the likelihood of the Federal Reserve maintaining its interest rate pause, U.S. stocks are likely to make gains. Spread betting decisions on U.S. stocks should carefully examine the U.S. economic landscape, and take into account the fact that U.S. stocks generally move opposite the U.S. dollar, which is weak right now.
Bloomberg reports on the state of U.S. stocks:
It's a ``decent environment for stocks,'' said Doug
Sandler, chief equity strategist at Wachovia Securities Inc. in
Richmond, Virginia. ``There seems to be mounting evidence that
the Fed is navigating a soft landing'' for the economy. | | |
